HUNTING AREAS

The Kilombero Valley and Selous Game Reserve is famed for having the highest density of Buffalo in all of Tanzania. Along with this density of game come the predators in the form of Lions and Leopards. The water systems here also provide harbour to plenty of Hippopotamuses and Crocodiles. Aggressive tigerfish can also provide some spectacular sport!! In the Miombo Woodlands of Selous game reserve, one can also find the unique Nyassa Wildebeest and Rooseveld’s Sable.

Masailand is well known for the variety of gazelle species that thrive in the thorny, dry and harsh environment. Not only are the Gazelle species (Thompson’s, Grants and Roberts) common here, but so are the unique Gerenuk, Dik Diks and Lesser Kudu.

Roberts Gazelle only on Lake Natron Concession White bearded Wildebeest, Zebra and a plethora of Giraffe can be found throughout the plains of these areas. Not only are the species and areas here unique, but it is very seldom that one literally hunts in the shadows on Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro!!

SPECIES

The Kilombero Valley teems with Cape Buffalo, supported by predators such as lions and leopards. Its water systems host hippopotamuses, crocodiles, and the aggressive tigerfish, a thrilling species for sport enthusiasts.

In the Selous Game Reserve, the unique Nyassa Wildebeest and Roosevelt’s Sable roam the miombo woodlands, adding to the diversity of this iconic wildlife haven.

Meanwhile, Masailand thrives with antelope species like Thompson’s Gazelle, Grants Gazelle, and the rare Roberts Gazelle, alongside Gerenuk, Dik-Diks, and Lesser Kudu. Plains here are alive with white-bearded wildebeest, zebra, and herds of giraffes, all set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro.

Please Note:

  • A flat shooting 300 caliber rifle firing 180gr bullets will easily handle all of the plains game one is to encounter.
  • A good quality scope, either 3-12 or something slightly stronger.
For the dangerous game, minimum legal caliber for buffalo is a .375. Please note that this is a minimum, and when using this on buffalo good quality bullets are essential.
  • A good quality scope will go a long way. Something in the 3-9 class I feel is good. The Swarovski 1.75-10x scope
