FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When is the best time to hunt Congo?
Rain is essential for success when hunting in the rainforest. In the equatorial forests there are two main rainy seasons, the first from April through to the end of July, and the second during the months of September and October.
Anytime during these rainy periods would be suitable for hunting.
What rifle should I bring?
Currently it is not possible to import firearms into the Republic of Congo. We do however have good quality Ruger 375s as camp rifles for you to make use of. These rifles are topped with either Leopold 1-4X Scopes or red-dot sights depending on your preference.
What distances will I be shooting?
Ranges within the rainforest are always very short, with most shots taken at less than 15 yards (some can even measured in feet!!). The tough thing here is always seeing your target area as there is so much vegetation between oneself and your target.
When hunting from machans over salt licks and savannas within the forest, one can sometimes be forced to take longer shots, but anything over 100 yards would be out of the norm.
What clothing should I bring?
Lightweight and quick drying clothing is always optimal when hunting in the jungle. Lightweight fishing gear is often best suited for here. Camouflage clothing is not necessary, but you are welcome to bring it along.
Long sleeved shirts and long trousers are recommended in this environment!! They, as well as gloves help in protecting you from all the thorny vines and lianas within the forest.
As for footwear, lightweight canvas boots are the way to go. And bring 2 pair. You will be walking through mud and water, so boots that dry out quickly are always a big plus! Gators that help stop ants climbing up ones trousers and keep mud an junk out of ones boots are also very handy.
What is the weather like?
The rainforest is definitely wet and humid, there is no getting away from that. Having said that, after the rains the forest cools down quite considerably. The build up to the rains brings with it incredible humidity, so be prepared for it.
The below diagram will give you an idea as to what temperatures to expect.
As for the humidity, here is what to prepare yourself for.
Will we have electricity in camp?
